Playability |
Regardless of the golfers ability it is S. Young Design's philosophy to ensure that each one of our golf courses provides an enjoyable experience for players of all levels. Although I have primarily been involved in creating championship golf courses, I believe that any golf course should provide the opportunity to play equally well for both the expert and the high handicap player. If designed properly, the expert player will not be aware of the high handicap game and the high handicap player will not be aware of the experts' game, even though both stratagems exist in the same hole. I feel I have done my job well when each player, regardless of ability, has a fair but challenging and enjoyable round. |

Aesthetic |
One of the foremost reasons we enjoy playing golf is the experience of spending three to four hours in a beautiful environment. It is the artist in me that loves to make each golf course I design a sculptural, artistic endeavor, as well as a technical, strategic one. Golf courses can take on many different feels. When I start a project I like to sense the energy and natural contours of the property and subsequently design a golf course that enhances the inherent topography. Ultimately, complimenting the innate aesthetics of the land makes for a natural and holistic experience for the golfer. Within my vision lies the goals and expectations of the individual I am working for. As a team we strive to balance the exciting, yet multifaceted objectives, including aesthetics, into our master plan. After all it is his/her dream I am helping to realize. |

Environment |
It is essential that all of my golf courses are designed with natural purification systems to cleanse the water of any excess nitrogen and/or chemicals that come off the fairways and greens. Equally important is the implementation of water systems that recycle rather than waste. I strongly believe in the attempt to maintain and encourage as much of the area's wildlife and natural characteristics within the golfing environment. With each course I design I become more aware of environmental concerns and hope to further educate myself in this area. Our company has thus far won several environmental awards, bearing testimony to our philosophy and motivating us to continue. |
